Ninth monthly ECAC familiarisation webinar on basic knowledge on aviation and the environment

6 April 2022 - The ninth monthly ECAC familiarisation webinar on basic knowledge on aviation and the environment addressed the role of air traffic management in achieving aviation’s climate goals.

The ECAC Secretariat introduced the webinar, recalling the effects of engine exhaust on the environment and on the climate and referring to the current ICAO discussion on the feasibility of establishing long-term aspirational goals to tackle them, and how operational improvements can contribute to this.

ECAC Coordinating Committee reflects on support measures to Ukraine

Paris/videoconference, 6 April 2022 - The Coordinating Committee discussed the impact on civil aviation of the war in Ukraine and decided to extend support to ECAC Member State Ukraine through a series of financial and practical measures.

The Committee also agreed on follow-up actions to the ECAC Medium-Term Objectives (EMTO) Task Force’s review of the performance of ECAC’s working groups, concentrating on proposals for promoting development of talent through the work of the groups, ensuring greater consistency of approaches and structures, and promoting diversity in the chairing of and participation in groups.

Safety investigation authorities review accidents and serious incidents in the ECAC region

Budapest/videoconference, 5 April 2022 - The participants in the 56th meeting of the Group of Experts on Air Accident and Incident Investigation (ACC) heard brief presentations on a number of high-risk occurrences from Austria, France, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Türkiye and the United Kingdom, as well as general observations by other ACC members on their open and closed investigations of civil aviation accidents and serious incidents.

National auditors from Cyprus benefit from cyber security training

28 and 30-31 March 2022 — Aviation security experts from Cyprus attended an online Best Practices for National Auditors – Cyber Security (basic) training course at the end of March. The course offered an overview of international and European (ECAC/EU) requirements and recommendations for cyber security in civil aviation, the common cyber threats to aviation, the key aviation entities and their critical systems.

News from the Economic Working Group

Paris, 30 March 2022 — The members of the Economic Working Group gathered in person to consider the status of the 2022 work programmes of the Economic Working Group and the Network of Chief Economists, including the work carried out by the two ad hoc study groups on the liberalisation of market access, and on the Multilateral Agreement on Commercial Rights of Non-scheduled Air Services in Europe (30 April 1956) – also known as the Paris Agreement of 1956.

AIRMOD considers work on rotorcraft noise modelling guidance

29-30 March 2022 — The ECAC EAEG Aircraft Noise Modelling Task Group (AIRMOD) held its 36th meeting online. The meeting looked at the work being undertaken to develop rotorcraft noise modelling guidance. The work by the Netherlands and Switzerland on the use of NORAH helicopter noise guidance was presented, as well as updates by EASA on the development of a second version of this guidance.
