Vienna, 13 May 2025 — The 62nd meeting of the ECAC Group of Experts on Air Accident and Incident Investigation (ACC) featured a dedicated session on investigating accidents in mountainous terrain. Experts with experience from the notoriously mountainous regions in Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland shared operational challenges and case studies, highlighting complex logistics, limited access, and heightened risks associated with alpine environments. The session underscored the importance of region-specific safety recommendations and mountain operations training.
Looking ahead, the ACC workshop scheduled for 4-5 November 2025 in Roskilde will address how technological innovation and increasing automation — particularly in unmanned aircraft systems — are reshaping the investigative landscape. Participants will explore strategies to enhance cooperation between investigators and emerging industry actors in an evolving, tech-driven aviation environment.
