New training documents for the ECAC Aviation Security Handbook
Paris/videoconference, 8-9 September 2022 — Several new documents for inclusion in the ECAC Aviation Security Handbook were endorsed at the 51st meeting of the ECAC Training Task Force. The documents included best practices for risk assessment training, and best practices for training on the use of shoe explosive detection (SED) and shoe metal detection (SMD) equipment.
Having discussed the challenges and lessons learnt from training screeners who interpret 2D and/or 3D x-ray images, the task force agreed to update the existing screener training guidance and to develop, in 2023, a new document on selecting screeners, in order to further support Member States to effectively deploy and use Standard 3 explosive detection systems (EDS) and explosive detection systems for cabin baggage (EDSCB), based on computed tomography (CT) technology.
