Biography

Ana Mata was appointed as chairwoman of the Board of ANAC, the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority, in January 2024.

She has been a member of the Board since November 2021, when she was responsible for managing the following areas within the CAA: economic regulation, consumer protection, human resources, financial resources, and procurement.

Ms Mata was director of the Management Control and Studies Bureau in the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority from 2008 to August 2020. She was also in charge of the Economic Regulation Directorate from 2014, accumulating both duties. Her main activities related to airport and air transport economic regulation as well as monitoring the civil aviation markets, and assessing the quality and availability of data. She conducted several studies including the Statistical Yearbook and economic studies on the competitiveness of civil aviation areas and their impact on the Portuguese economy.

Ms Mata joined the Civil Aviation Authority in 2000, working as head of the Air Transport Licensing Department. She has a postgraduate degree in I&T – business engineering, a master’s in management and strategy from the Lisbon School of Economics & Management, and a degree in business management from the University Institute of Lisbon.
